About us
Our vision
Our vision is to minister to the heart of God in the heart of England – and for everyone to encounter the presence of God, being restored and transformed.
Jesus said, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty’.

Our mission
- to walk by faith and trust in Jesus Christ, to seek God and grow in oneness with him
- to be attentive to the voice of God, to be obedient and follow his leading in his Word and by his Spirit
- to have thanksgiving, worship and prayer at the heart of all that we are and do
- to be a place of welcome, rest and refreshment, rich in the presence of God, where people can take time in solitude and also gather with others to pray and worship

The House of Bread team are committed to creating a place where people can take time away from the busyness of the world and draw near to God; coming into stillness and quietness – where they can be emotionally renewed and spiritually nourished.
Nothing satisfies like the presence of God, and nothing compares with encountering the love of God and hearing his voice. True life, abundant life can only be found in Jesus – as we come to him and as we learn from him. As we grow in knowing God, we will make him known to those around us.
Settled – still – surrendered
Places of Welcome – Drop-in Café
The Drop-in Café is open on a Tuesday morning from 9:00am until 10:30am in the Community Room at Hope Hamilton School. We have signed up to the national network of ‘Places of Welcome’.
There are five guiding principles which all Places of Welcome agree to – known as the ‘5 Ps’. They were developed by people running Places of Welcome and it is these guiding principles that hold the network together.
- Presence of God
- Knowing true peace and joy
- Unity
- An ever deepening relationship with God
- The written word of God in the Bible
- Joy and laughter with those we journey with
- Good coffee and comfy beds!
- Place: a hospitable and accessible building, open at the same time every week – for us this generally means term-time only as we share the building with the school.
- Presence: a place where people actively listen to one another.
- Provision: free refreshments (at least a cup of tea and a biscuit) are on offer along with basic local information.
- Participation: recognition that every person coming to a Place of Welcome will bring talents, experiences and skills that they might be willing to share locally.
We also provide some toys for small children to play with, and recent activities have included instructions on knitting and sewing – with a sewing machine available and a very creative instructor to inspire the learning of new skills.
Please come and join us if you are able to – and help us build community in the wonderful district of Hamilton.

We truly value the team at The House of Bread. Each one bringing who they are, offering their time and gifts to bless one another as well as the guests. Fulfilling the vision in providing space for people to come away and encounter God is only made possible through God’s leading and his amazing provision, and a big part of this is the people that he brings to be on team.
We have a small on-site community; the directors/wardens and Assistant warden, and there is also the wider team of trustees, housekeeping and administration staff, and those that volunteer and support in a variety of ways.

Our story
Founded in 1987, two women with incredible faith and vision, Judy and Fran, set up a Christian centre in a derelict Georgian mill. In 2007, following a major fire and a flood, the vision and original name, ‘Green Hill Outreach’ was laid down. Restoration work of the mill took place, and following God’s leading, the new name, ‘The House of Bread’ was given to the ministry. Today the whole site offers a vibrant, contemporary place open to all to come and seek God.
